    Crocodile Hunter dead

Sad to see this in the news. After all the crocs Steve Irwin messed with, he was killed by a freaking Stingray. From CNN:

Steve Irwin, the Australian TV presenter known as the "Crocodile Hunter," has died after being stung in a marine accident off Australia's north coast.

Australian media reports say Irwin was diving in waters off Port Douglas, north of Cairns, when the incident happened on Monday morning.

Irwin was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest, according to Cairns police sources. Irwin was filming an underwater documentary at the time.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality Monday morning off Port Douglas, according to Australian media.

Queensland Police Services also confirmed Irwin's death and said his family had been notified.

Irwin, 44, was director of the Australian Zoo in Queensland.

He and his American-born wife Terri Irwin became popular figures on Australian and international television through Irwin's close handling of wildlife, most notably the capture of live crocodiles.

Irwin's enthusiastic approach to nature conservation and the environment won him a global following.

That sucks. He was odd, but the world needs a few more folks that believe in nature conservation. Not the radicals mind you-just those of us who appreciate being outdoors and taking care of them.

Very true.. I always enjoyed his shows, and his enthusiastic and high-spirited attitude towards nature and especially towards his viewers.

Yet another great person gone in 2006.

    Re: Crocodile Hunter dead

I'm sure a lot of kids as well as adults will be upset by this. The world could definitely use more people who care as passionately about the environment and it's creatures as Steve Irwin did. It may have been a freak accident, but a costly one. At least he was doing what he loved at the end and if you watched his show at all you know he was happy.

    Re: Crocodile Hunter dead

How can you catch and pick up every venomous snake in the world and not die but be unlucky enough to take a stingray barb through the heart ?
Life is a grindstone . Whether it grinds us down or polishes us up , depends on what we are made of .
